How much subsidy do I get for €150 a month?
Last updated: · under the rules from 1 January 2027 · Publisher: INTERNA · responsible: Marc A. Schnitzler, in mortgage financing since 2005
For €150 a month, that is €1,800 a year, eligible people get up to €540 basic subsidy from 2027. That is €30 for every €100 you pay in. For each child you receive child benefit (Kindergeld, the monthly state payment for children) for, up to €300 is added.
Subsidy by monthly contribution
| Contribution per month | per year | Basic subsidy | with 1 child | with 2 children |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| €10 | €120 | €60 | €180 | €300 |
| €25 | €300 | €150 | €450 | €750 |
| €30 | €360 | €180 | €480 | €780 |
| €50 | €600 | €240 | €540 | €840 |
| €100 | €1,200 | €390 | €690 | €990 |
| €150 | €1,800 | €540 | €840 | €1,140 |
This is how it is calculated: 50 cents per euro on the first €360 a year, 25 cents per euro on everything above that up to €1,800. The child subsidy is as much as your own yearly contribution, at most €300 per child. That is why €25 a month is enough to get it in full.
What paying more than €150 brings
There is no basic subsidy above €540, because contributions are subsidised up to €1,800 a year. These €1,800, together with your subsidies, also count as a special expense (Sonderausgabe, an amount you can deduct) in your tax return, for a person without children up to €2,340. If you fill in Anlage AV, the form for pension savings in the tax return, the tax office checks automatically whether the tax deduction brings more than the subsidy. Whether this pays off for you depends on your income and is a question for your advice appointment.
Each person needs their own contract
The state subsidises each eligible person separately. If both partners each pay €150 a month into their own contract, together they get up to €1,080 basic subsidy. If a spouse stays at home and is not eligible themselves, they can get up to €175 with their own contract from €120 a year. Children in training or with a mini-job (Minijob, a small job with a low wage) get their own contracts, more about this here.

The money in the contract is meant for your retirement and your own home. If you have the subsidised savings paid out early, for example by cancelling the contract, you have to pay back the subsidies and tax benefits.
The examples explain the legal rules in simplified form. They do not replace tax or legal advice for your personal situation. Contract costs and interest are not included.
